The debut novel of Canadian screenwriter Devon Richards. Available everywhere - October 2022

For every warrior, the road reaches an end. When Captain Arnath and his band of treasure-hunting ex-soldiers decide it’s time to hang up their swords and abandon the adventuring road, they find their retirement a tad more perilous than they had imagined it. Their reputation proceeds them to the sleepy town they choose to open their new business in – A traveller’s outpost that will serve adventurer’s like they once were - and soon, they find themselves enlisted as the town’s defenders against all forms of peril.

And buried in the land they build their outpost upon lies a dark magical secret, one connected to their own past, one that will reign down destruction on the entire kingdom if they can’t find a way to stop it.

Who knew retirement was so dangerous?

Captain Arnath and his treasure seeking companions are survivors. Having outlived all their other companions from the adventuring road, Arnath – along with Shrakar the Half-Orc, Trellith the dwarf and Garthe the young mage – stumble across a treasure, the retrieval of which nearly kills them.

The party decides to settle down, to stop adventuring and open an inn that will serve those just beginning their quests. But the sleeping town they set up shop in has an old, arcane secret – A peril so great that once reawakened it draws our heroes into their deadliest adventure yet.

Though new to the world of publishing, author Devon Richards has been writing for a good 30 years. He submitted 2 spec episodes to “Star Trek: The Next Generation” through their pre-production office, and has been writing scripts ever since. Optioned multiple times in Hollywood and by Canadian production companies, Devon Richards has won high-placing laurels in multiple script competitions, and had short films produced across Canada. His screenplay “VESSELS” is in development, and he is also working on his own directorial debut project. When not writing scripts or prose, Mr Richards is a bass player, a prolific song writer, and is working on a music project with a session musician for God Speed You, Black Emperor.

While his first novel, “Where All Roads Lead”, is an epic fantasy that plays with many of the tropes of the genre, he is also working on a book close to his formative 80’s underground years - an alternative culture- based noir series.

An expert chef, he resides in Toronto, Canada with Minion, his 18-year old Tabby
